The town of Sedona, AZ began as a modest ranching and farming settlement in 1876. Though only 19m2 in size, Sedona has become a world-famous attraction due to the fantastic red rock formations and outdoor recreation opportunity. Visitors worldwide come to enjoy the vernacular culture of the town, including a strong sense of indigenous spirituality, natural outdoor beauty, and lively community events by local artists and musicians. (Coats, 2009).
In the summers, Sedona prevails to be a popular spot despite it’s high desert temperatures reaching over 100°F. Thus, to create an outdoor ampitheatre attraction that caters to the culture of Sedona, passive cooling and shading design techniques should be implemented for both the safety and enjoyment of users.
